A versatile clarinetist, Sarah Sommer is a freelance musician residing in New York City.  Having performed with members of the New York Philharmonic and the Philadelphia Orchestra in Carnegie Hall, Sarah has also recently been seen playing Principal Clarinet in the Santo Domingo Music Festival in the Dominican Republic and in the Nice Festival Academy Orchestra in France.  Sarah studied with Mark Nuccio of the New York Philharmonic at the Manhattan School of Music in the prestigious Orchestral Performance Master’s Program.  Prior to moving to New York, she graduated magna cum laude from Northwestern University under the guidance of J. Lawrie Bloom of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.  She frequently performs with the American Symphony Orchestra, the Stamford Symphony Orchestra, and the New World Symphony, and in the summer months, Sarah has been involved in the AIMS Festival Orchestra in Austria and the National Repertory Orchestra in Colorado.  She has also won numerous awards and competitions in chamber music including advancement at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.  Having performed in masterclasses led by members of the Vienna Philharmonic and composers such as Paquito D’Rivera, Sarah has also trained with numerous clarinetists across the country.  She teaches clarinet and saxophone at the Calhoun School in New York City in addition to being a member of In The Pocket NYC, a teaching artist co-operative.  An avid orchestral musician, Sarah particularly enjoys playing auxiliary instruments including Eb clarinet, bass clarinet, and saxophone.  Sarah has also worked in the Development Department at the Lyric Opera of Chicago as part of her administrative background in addition to her current involvement with the Production Team at Distinguished Concerts International New York.
